Steinbock Farm Honey Color Stickers

Summer 2020 Update

September 7, 2020

There is a lot going on at Steinbock Farm! Our greenhouse has been up for the season and the garden has been going strong all summer. The tomatoes are looking great even as we get into September and we have great harvests of potatoes, onions, peppers, carrots, beans, melons, beets and more. Our animals have been so healthy and we have two new calves who have joined the crew.

Our hives are going strong - we’ve jarred 700 pounds of honey and still going. As always, we process the harvest from each hive separately so it takes us a little longer. It’s worth it though since we get to share the unique flavor that each hive produces.

We have maple syrup and honey available at our retailers (see our products page for most current list). Again, thank you to our customers. This is only our second year marketing our products and we are constantly amazed by repeat customers who are specifically asking for our honey and maple syrup.

Thank you!

Steinbock Farm Honey Color Stickers

August 23, 2020

People often ask "what are those color stickers on your lids?". The answer speaks to our appreciation for what the bees are creating for us. Nearly all honey you will buy in the store is a blend of honey harvested from many hives. However, we really enjoy experiencing the subtle differences in the flavor of the honey that each colony has created in a given harvest. We can't really put a flavor on it and market it, because there are only 20-40 pounds of each so it is here to enjoy and gone!

The color stickers are simply a way to differentiate - If you want to experience the differences like we do, mix up the colors. Another tip - generally, the bigger the difference in the darkness of the honey, the bigger the difference in flavor.

If you want even more information about the honey in your jar you can find it here.

Steinbock Farm Spring 2020

Spring 2020 Update

May 9, 2020

We are very busy this spring getting ready for the honey and gardening season. All of our 31 hives survived the winter except for the loss of one older queen. We successfully merged the bees from that hive into a smaller hive to strengthen the numbers. At this stage, we focus on keeping all the hives fed and healthy as they recuperate from the long winter. Soon we’ll be splitting strong hives to give them more room and getting ready to collect honey!

We are also reconstructing our greenhouse with a larger footprint and peaked roof (better suited to snowy climates as we have learned!).

A very big thank you to all of our customers who bought up our honey and maple syrup faster than we could keep it in stock last year (our first year)! We anticipate more than double the honey stock this year assuming the cooperation of nature, and will post when our first harvest is available.

We have 2020 maple syrup products in stock in multiple sizes (1/2 gallon, 32oz and 16oz) and colors (amber, dark and very dark). Soon, we’ll begin selling through local farm stands, but feel free to contact us for direct purchases in the meantime. Also, we will likely have nuc hives available soon so please reach out if you are interested.
